Welcome!

New England Steam Corporation (NESCo) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration and operation of Maine Central steam locomotive #470. As an education-based organization, NESCo strives to revive vanishing trades and skills through on-the-job training and distribution of technical knowledge. Safety and quality work are NESCo’s top priorities in getting #470 back to running on the rails.

NESCo’s all-volunteer membership is comprised of people from all walks of life, including railroaders, mechanics, machinists, electricians, carpenters, educators, historians, enthusiasts, and many others. Want to lend a hand? Join NESCo as a member or donate to the cause and help rebuild an American-made classic!

The Maine Central #470 restoration is underway at Washington Junction in Hancock, Maine. NESCo shares the property with Downeast Scenic Railroad. We invite you to take a train ride with Downeast Scenic and book a restoration shop tour at the same time. Shop tours can be arranged by contacting us directly. Make sure to read all the details regarding shop tours before arriving at the yard.
